Ron Thal, ...or "Bumblefoot" as he's known to millions of fans worldwide, is a virtuoso guitarist, whose skill is only surpassed by his work ethic and his warm hearted approachable persona. Ron gives as much of himself to his fans as he does to his craft.
When we sat down to talk, Ron's meter vacillated between a fever pitch and a calm intention. No matter though his words were wrought with insight, and passion.
Ron initially waned to share a Beatles song with you all, but he paused and interjected,"...I've got a song that is more personal...but it's actually a song I wrote."
Thrilled that he was ready to peel back the layers and go even deeper in his sharing...I assured him that that would indeed be a very wonderful thing to share.
When he told me of his suffering with depression, and how he'd been medicated to the point of his creativity being hindered...it struck a chord. This went from a fun upbeat Beatles song, to deep...the kind of deep that reaches into places that we often dont share with each other but find solace in music to cope with.. and the kind that even more rarely is shared with millions of people.
Six Beats was off to a powerful start.
I had chills as I plugged my headphones in.
I felt as if I were stepping onto a launch pad.
I was instantaneously aware of the fact that I was about to go on a journey....the journey of another man. One he'd walked in his own shoes and most likely very much alone.
And I was about to go on this journey in a way that woudl take potentially millions of people with me.
